Dead Meadow‘s Jason Simon joined our all star band, the Family Folk Explosion, in San Francisco this past Winter for a spectacular evening of cosmic jams. Jason and I fronted the band for a nearly 2 hour final set, switching between classic Meadow cuts, Jason’s Old Testament material, some of my new batch of doozies and an Os Beaches classic or two. Joining us on this night was my longtime rhythm section of Sensei Mihaly and Big Joe Lewis, along with FFE freshmen Jason Ceremony and Taylor Splift. Matthew Szemela also returned to the fold after a long hiatus (out playing with the likes of Jay Z, Lana Del Rey and Ani Di Franco.)
The cut above is one of my unrecorded tunes, Forward Escape. If you haven’t caught the Family Folk Explosion live, it’s a one of a kind experience. What the SF Weekly once referred to as, “Like the last 60 years of American Music seen throught he mushroom hazed eyes of a bunch of West Coast misfits… often spectacular.” Sounds about right.
